Gray County VINELink Became IVSS
Texas retired county VINE on September 1, 2025. The current county service is Texas IVSS-Counties. Existing registrations migrated, and a first portal login may require a password update. The change is more than a new name. Current instructions, search fields, and registration options should be taken from IVSS-Counties rather than from an old VINELink tutorial.

Gray County participation has not been conclusively verified. Test a known current record or call IVSS-Counties support at 866-268-8959.
Search Gray County IVSS Records
The county portal is built for one specific person in participating custody or supervision data. Search with the most precise identifier available. A jail ID or permanent booking number is safer than a common name. When a name is the only option, compare every available identifier before saving an alert.
- Open Texas IVSS-Counties.
- Enter a full or partial first and last name, with at least three letters of each when possible, or use DOC ID, SID, jail ID, or permanent booking number.
- Complete the captcha and submit the search.
- Compare the returned identity, custody source, and status to known facts.
- If no match appears, retry spelling and identifiers, then call Gray County Jail. Do not label the person released from absence alone.

Gray County IVSS Result Fields
IVSS is a notification and search aid, not a county release log. Its data depends on participating sources and the matched record. Available events may include booking, release, court changes, death, escape, or transfer to TDCJ. The portal does not promise that every field will appear for Gray County.

A result cannot certify the exact book-out time, legal disposition, or destination unless the originating record supplies and confirms those facts. Call Gray County Jail at 806-669-8022 and request the booking/release report when proof is needed.
Set Gray County Release Alerts
Current IVSS-Counties materials allow registration with or without a portal account. The available event types depend on the record. Choose only the events and contact methods that help track the named person, then retain the source identifier so a later message can be matched to the correct episode.
- Open the matching current custody or supervision record.
- Select notifications and choose the offered release, booking, court, or transfer events.
- Choose text message, telephone, email, or a mix of those channels.
- Set preferred contact hours and blackout dates where the portal offers them.
- Save the registration and preserve the record ID and confirmation.
- Manage, pause, or review notification history later, or call 866-268-8959 for operator help.
The official Texas IVSS brochure describes these current registration and preference choices. The operator line is available around the clock. An account can make later management easier, but it is not required for every registration route.
Current county materials do not document the old four-digit VINE PIN confirmation step. Do not create one. PIN confirmation belongs only to the separate TDCJ IVSS telephone process described below.
Gray County TDCJ IVSS Alerts
Rufe Jordan Unit and Baten Intermediate Sanction Facility are TDCJ sites, not Gray County Jail units. State-prison and parole notifications therefore use the separate TDCJ IVSS portal or TDCJ Victim Services at 800-848-4284. The county portal is not the TDCJ current-inmate locator, and the TDCJ portal is not the Sheriff's booking ledger.

The state system should be used for Jordan, Baten, parole, and other TDCJ events rather than a county-jail alert route.
TDCJ's user guide documents PIN confirmation for telephone notices. Calls continue until the recipient confirms with the assigned PIN or stops notification through the portal or Victim Services. Phone calls are suppressed during stated overnight hours, while text and email can operate around the clock. That rule must not be copied into IVSS-Counties instructions without support.
A Jordan departure may be parole, mandatory supervision, direct discharge, or transfer. Leaving Baten may mean return to supervision or another correctional placement. Preserve the event wording and confirm it with TDCJ. A transfer alert should never be restated as freedom from custody.
Confirm Gray County Release Alerts
A saved alert is valuable because a former inmate may later disappear from IVSS search. Preserve the message, event time, person identifier, and source. Then obtain the official record. For Gray County Jail, call the Sheriff and request the book-out date, release type, releasing authority, and destination or receiving agency. Follow the court cause when the reason for release matters.
This two-source method is stronger than a later name search alone. The alert records what the notification system sent. The Sheriff's release report records the county custody event. A judgment, bond order, dismissal, or supervision record can then explain the legal result. If the alert says transfer, search the named receiving system.
The transition from VINE to IVSS makes preservation especially useful. Legacy registrations migrated, but portal visibility is geared to current custody or supervision. A saved event can survive even when the person no longer appears in a later search.
If a message identifies a court event, obtain the actual order from the clerk. If it identifies release, ask the jail for the exact book-out time and disposition. A transfer notice calls for the destination agency and transport record. Those follow-ups keep three different events from being described with the same word. They also create a custody chain that remains useful after a portal result changes.
When an alert has no clear agency name, call operator support with the record identifier before contacting unrelated offices. Staff may identify the participating source or help correct the registration. Keep phone, text, and email details current so a failed delivery does not look like a missing event.
Note: Notification is a prompt to verify an event, not a certified Gray County release record or proof of community release.
Gray County IVSS Coverage Limits
IVSS-Counties does not replace the TDCJ inmate locator, a certified Gray County court docket, the federal Bureau of Prisons locator, or the ICE detainee locator. It also warns that not all counties take part. Gray County's live participation remains unverified, so a no-result has several possible causes: spelling error, wrong ID, intake delay, nonparticipation, transfer, or former-inmate removal.
The TDCJ current search also has strict limits. It includes only people now incarcerated in TDCJ, updates on working days, and is at least 24 hours old. It excludes former inmates. Thus, neither county IVSS silence nor TDCJ silence proves release. Use TDCJ email or telephone channels for prior state custody and projected-date information.

Federal and immigration systems are outside both Texas IVSS portals. A BOP “Released” result proves only departure from BOP custody. An ICE no-result does not itself prove release. Match each claim to the custodian that created the record.
